Our Mission Story

The Los Angeles County Firefighters Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded and operated by Los Angeles County Firefighters. Established in 2009 by Los Angeles County Firefighters, IAFF Local 1014—the union representing over 3,400 firefighters, paramedics, pilots, dispatchers, hazmat specialists, and forestry personnel—the foundation was created in response to the devastating Station Fire, which tragically claimed the lives of Los Angeles County Fire Captain Tedmund "Ted" Hall and Firefighter Specialist Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones. Their sacrifice inspired the mission of the foundation: to ensure that firefighters and their families receive the critical support they need in times of crisis.

With nearly 200 fire stations across LA County, our foundation provides vital resources beyond what the Department supplies, ensuring firefighters have the tools and assistance necessary to stay safe and healthy. This includes funding extractors for turnout gear, specialized washing machines that remove harmful carcinogens from protective clothing—equipment not provided by the department. Additionally, we prioritize behavioral health resources for firefighters and their families, recognizing the immense mental and emotional toll of the job.

The foundation also stands by the families of fallen firefighters, offering aid and long-term support to those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Beyond that, we assist firefighters and their communities affected by major disasters, such as the 2025 Los Angeles fires.

Through the generosity of donors and community partners, the Los Angeles County Firefighters Foundation continues to honor the legacy of those we’ve lost while providing unwavering support to those who serve.
